Pink Floyd Hammers
This sequence was my homage/spoof of Pink Floyd's "The Wall". Animating the hammers marching is done in a couple minutes these, days with digital technology: animate one hammer with a pivot point and copy and paste the others... super easy. But back in 1982 the hammer sequence was a lot of work, and an amazing piece of animation. And oh yeah, that's our recurring character in the bottom pic. He's a Hitler Highway Patrol Cop. It just made sense to have him marching behind the hammers... almost kinda profound.

strategic placing
So in the top 3 pics, I animated a half naked Pizza Paneer dancing across a banquet table. Every time he turned to face the camera I had him in front of a plate of food, like that sequence in Austin Powers.

Colonosocopy
It's not very often you get to animate a colonoscopy, but that's the kind of humor we give you in The Deerskins.

Pizza Paneer
This is Pizza Paneer, probably my favorite character on The Deerskins. He runs a pizza/cremation shop, using the same oven to make pizza and burn your loved one to ashes! Mmmmmmm tasty.

Top: Establish positions. Middle: Summer's POV looking down at Buzz. Bottom: Buzz's POV looking up at Summer.

hopeless romantic
You think it's a kiss in the close up, but a quick zoom out reveals Summer is administering CPR to a drowned Buzz.

Stalker
This was a fun sequence, Buzz spying/stalking Summer in her bedroom. I added the 3 different frames each time we cut back to Summer that matches whatever Buzz is using to spy on her in the preceding shot. Buzz spits a lot when he talks, so I also added the gag of having the spit come out of the phone when Summer talks to him. I got that idea from the first Nightmare on Elm Street movie when Freddie's tongue comes out of the phone... or was it the second movie?

helmet
A couple more shots from this episode. The whole episode is about Phoenix, he is the star. His conversations and dialog with the computer, KAL, are very entertaining.

Dont make me angry...
... You wouldn't like me when I'm angry.
During the 'Mock Meat' commercial there is a little spoofy homage to The Incredible Hulk. I have Thunder's eyes turn green like Bill Bixby in the 70's Hulk series, and then one of his arms gets Hulked out.

reuse
Originally, the idea with these infomercials was to fill time and save on animation. You know, reuse the animation and just change the product. It didn't exactly work out that way, we were adding new gags in each infomercial, but there is some reuse... like in the pics above.

Happy Zappy
In every episode of 'The Deerskins' we have a recurring gag with our main character, Thunder Deerskin, in an infomercial peddling products that have something to do with the episode. In this one, the product is Happy Zappy Stun Guns. I added two gags; 1- the terminator wasn't in the script, but there was a line that said something about 'schwarzenator technology'. The word made me laugh, combining 'schwarzenegger' and 'termintor' to end up with 'schwarzenator' is just brilliant. So I added the terminator zapping him. 2- giving him 'bride of Frankenstein' hair after he gets zapped. My homage to the sci-fi horror genre.
Gladys
Another shot of Gladys. She starts her morning off with a cigarette and booze. I gave her runny mascara, a 5 o'clock shadow, warts, a unibrow, curlers in her hair, and a fish bone.

allergic reaction
In the script, Gladys has an allergic reaction to peanut butter cookies. Instead of having her break out in spots, or get a rash all over her face, I thought it would be funny and surreal if she actually turned into a peanut butter cookie. I proposed this idea to the director and he loved it. The final scene turned out great! Our sound guy really did a great effect when her face transforms into a cookie.

KAL P.O.V.
Some screenshots from a series I am working on, called "THE DEERSKINS", over at Jerry Co. This is a POV shot from a computer named KAL. It's a spoof of HAL from the movie 2001 A Space Odyssey. KAL (bottom pic) is a red glowing light... thus the red tinted scene when he is looking at Phoenix in the chair. I'm just animating on this show. I did not design the characters or the backgrounds. But I must say, the show is a lot of fun to work on, and I have as much creative freedom as is possible. Look for it on APTN in the fall. Lots more Deerskins screenshots to come!!
