sleeping kitty

My cat is always sleeping on a box next to my computer desk. So I took advantage of the 'life drawing model' and sketched my sleeping kitty.

sketching a moving cat...updated

My cat, Diesel, was sleeping on my scanner next to my computer. I was compelled by his cuteness to sketch him. During the drawing he moved his outstretched arm and tucked it in, achieving uber-cuteness, as seen in the top sketch. One of the advantages of drawing from a live model, human or feline, as opposed to a photo, is that a live model will shift and move a bit, it's a much better way to learn movement, anatomy, and motion.

late night cat sketch

Not sure what I am going to do with this sketch yet; make it cartoony? graphic? minimal? colored? line art? or maybe just leave it as this sketch and move on to something else?

This is as minimal as I could go with this pose.

Yawning cat

It's getting there.
I am trying to simplify this drawing. I'm working toward fewer lines, more suggestion of form, a streamlined minimal drawing.

I like this pose...

...so I did another drawing with the brush pen, and then some simple photoshop coloring.

That's my lazy Diesel, waiting for his belly to be rubbed.

brush work

Uncontrolled splatter is always a nice touch.

I like the boldness of brush work, the loose quality of the line. I'll color this later, probably with a loose water color wash, nothing digital on this piece.

My fat cat, DIESEL

I'll do the same thing to this as I did with my previous cat sketch, make it cartoony. I find my cat is the easiest thing to draw, so I'll probably be posting a lot of cat drawings in the next few weeks, to keep my "post every day" promise.

Just a quick color job to make sure I have a post for today, keeping my promise of a post everyday for the rest of the month.

Poetic Lounging...updated

Here's a cartoony version of the sketch below. In both sketches he's laying on my girlfriend's pillow, hence the smug expression. He LOVES laying all over her stuff, anything, a boot, a shirt, a purse, a book; if she puts it down, he's instantly on top of it.

My cat, DIESEL. He likes to sleep a lot. My girlfriend refers to his many resting positions as "POETIC LOUNGING." Here's one of them.

RAZOR

Not the striped pattern of fur that my cat Razor has, but I captured Razor's attitude pretty good.

Cartoony Cat Sketches

This is the result of being bored at work. I was waiting for some character designs to be approved, so I sketched a few cats.

DIESEL

This is a sketch I did a couple of years ago of my cat, DIESEL. He was in a playful mood by my feet while I was drawing, rolling on his back. I managed to pull off a decent sketch, even though he didn't stay still for more than a few seconds.
