One of my favorite Venoms

It's hard to pick my favorite Venom, they are all so awesome. I do have a top 3 though, Lo Mang, Philip Kwok, and Chiang Sheng. This drawing, although not a caricature, is inspired by Chiang Sheng.

Fu Fighters

Young
Old

I have been watching a ton of old Kung Fu flicks lately, all the Shaw Bros. movies starring the 5 Venoms. So I was inspired to draw this guy. I drew one face and played with different facial hair.
I have to find these movies on DVD! My favorites are; The 5 Deadly Venoms, The Kid With The Golden Arm, Crippled Avengers, Flags Of Iron, Magnificent Ruffians, Legend Of The Fox, Sword Stained With Royal Blood, House Of Traps, Killer Army, Ten Tigers From Kwang Tung, Venom Mob, Life Combat, Brave Archer, Two Champions Of Shaolin, Death Chambers, Chinese Super Ninjas, Avenging Warriors Of Shaolin, Masked Avengers.

no time to dwell

A little something I pitched recently. It did not get the "go-ahead" so I am moving on to the next project. Would have been great though, there is so much potential in this idea!

I collaborated with my brother on this pic. It's a part of a pitch I am working on.

lookin' around

Step 4: color and add a bg

Step 3: clean vector line, smooth it out, close the gaps for coloring

Step 2: color palette experiments

Step 1: quick rough sketch, directly on the wacom tablet.

digital sketch

I've said it a million times, I need a Cintiq. Sketching with a Wacom tablet is not easy. I have to have my free hand on the "x" undo key constantly, and every line I make takes at least 3 tries to get it half way decent. Luckily this is only a sketch, I couldn't do a refined picture without a Cintiq, not with the brush tool anyway. I have been doing my refined work mostly with the line tool and using the handlebars to make the line perfect, but it take much longer that way.

Living Dead

I was thinking I would add shade on the zombie hands, give a two-tone look....but nah! I'll leave it like this and move on to something else.

Zombie hand BG

The final BG.
Laying on flat colors. Most of coloring is done in photoshop, so at this point I am not worried about tones and values.

I started very rough, moving around the tombstones to get them in a good composition that works with the animation; at this point the tombstones are just blocks. Once everything was in place, then I put the rough details on the tombstones and crosses.

Clean animation, without color.

My favorite holiday

I love Halloween! For a horror movie junkie it's like Christmas, only all evil and scary. So I'll be playing with horror themed animation and art for the next month. This is a work in progress.

Just a little staggered animation cycle.
