planet of the humans

A classic scene from one of the Planet Of The Apes sequels; who can ever forget the image of the astronauts coming back to Earth, only to reveal that it's the apes!

covered in snot

I could have drawn the snot covering the angel many ways, but I went with the straight palette knife look. One of my favorite shows, 'The Venture Bros." uses this look when they do blood splatter effects. When I first saw Brock Sampson covered in blood that looked like it was painted on with a palette knife with straight edges, I took notice and wanted to use the same effect. So here's my chance...except it's mucus not blood. But what the heck, it's still body fluid.

simple goats

These characters are small background characters in a long line of animals, so I kept them simple.

brontosaurus close up

I really like the shadowy effect on her, just in her close ups.

Planet Of The Apes!

I think that's enough apes for now. This was just for fun anyway.

Chimps Ahoy!

filling the scene

Humans, Gorillas, Orangutans... it's just missing the Chimpanzees.

NOVA

Thought you were going to see her naked, didn't you? Afraid not. I decided to clothe her, even though Taylor is naked. I prefer to keep something to the imagination.

captured in the buff

My original thought was to add a loin cloth or some kind of clothing, like Charlton Heston wore. But I figured it made more sense that the apes would not clothe the humans, at least not the mute humans in the original movie. I hated the fact that the humans all talked in the remake. I cleaned up the character, but decided to keep the netting just as it was in the rough sketch. So here is a naked captured Taylor in color. You know what this means?... Nova is coming soon, and she might be naked too!

Taylor rough

Once I get all the apes done, I will play around with their placement in the BG. I want to fill the scene with a ton of apes.

rock me Dr. Zaius

I read that another Planet of the Apes movie is in the works. A prequel this time, and it's starring James Franco. I like him as an actor, he was great in Pineapple Express. But I also liked Mark Wahlberg and thought he would be good in Planet of the Apes; after all, he was great in Boogie Nights. I'm keeping my fingers crossed, but I am not expecting much. The original movie will never be equaled. no matter how good the ape costumes are, no matter how much CGI they throw in there, and no matter how many comic book like action sequences they use.

Dr. Zaius

Up next...Dr. Zaius! Once I clean up this rough sketch I'll add him to the scene in my previous post.
