HELLBOY

The best HELLBOY drawing I ever saw was by Jeff Matsuda on his website. I was thinking of his HellBoy when I drew this at the studio today. His is better of course.

This is the result of being bored at work. I was waiting for some character designs to be approved, so I sketched a few cats.

DIESEL

This is a sketch I did a couple of years ago of my cat, DIESEL. He was in a playful mood by my feet while I was drawing, rolling on his back. I managed to pull off a decent sketch, even though he didn't stay still for more than a few seconds.

Lizard BG

FROG MAN in the sauna

This was my first attempt using a brush pen. I have had the pen for years, just never got around to using it. It'll take some practice to get used to the feel of the brush pen. I will be using this more and more, it's a great tool!

I may vectorize this and color it. My attempt to color the sketch in photoshop proved unsuccessful. I think it needs a stylized illustrator look if I want to add color to it.

Lately I have been fascinated with drawing feet for some reason. I guess because I don't draw enough feet and felt an urge to practice drawing them.

Today's sketch. I've been listening to Johnny Cash today, after seeing a preview of the Johnny Cash movie with Joquin Phoenix playing the lead roll. So I felt like drawing a cowboy.

Baseball Kid Colored

I like to experiment with different photoshop brushes and painting techniques. I could continue coloring this pic, as it is far from finished. But I will leave it half done, there is enough information in the painting to show a light source and create a composition.

Droopy Dude

Just a sketch I liked so I did a quick color job on it. I was trying to come up with a narator character for the next episode of The Z-Files. I like the sketch, but I will not use him in The Z-Files.

Santa's chimney house

Santa has to practice climbing in and out of chimneys, so I designed his house to have multiple chimneys of all sorts of shapes and sizes to squeeze in and out of.

I tried many color variations on this one. This is the one I like best. I think the orange sky and the blue ground work nicely together with the colors of the workshop.

This is from a project in developement. The director has a very specific vision of what she wants the art style to look like. I tryed to make it look a lot like the art of the late great Disney designer Mary Blair.

get your stinkin' feet out of my face

Feet, feet feet. Practice, practice practice. Reminds me of a scene from Disney's THE LITTLE MERMAID when Ariel first gets her feet. The shot is very similar to this one.

distortion

I purposely distorted her proportions. I added about 40 pounds to her lower half. I'll try doign this again in another sketch, and exagerate the distortion even more.

This one turned out less Disney looking than the others.

feet

I didn't like the feet in the first few sketches , they seemed to stiff compared to the curves and flowing lines of the rest of the sketch. So I did this to get the same feel in the feet as the rest of the sketch. If I have trouble drawing a certain thing, feet in this case, I will keep drawing that thing until I get it.
