intimidation

Starting a fresh new sketchbook is intimidating. The paper is new and white, there are no creases in it, and no bad sketches. It is easier to draw on a scrap piece of paper than in a new sketchbook, you can always throw out the scrap if the sketch sucks. So here I just tried to fill a couple pages with doodles, just to get over the intimidation and to not be afraid to make a bad drawing, to try new things that may not work out.

I started a fresh new sketch book tonight. This is the first drawing in it. I used a COL-ERASE pencil for the sketch, PANTONE TRIA MARKERS for her dark hair and background color, and a stick of white chalk for the highlight in her hair.

Not sure what I am going to do with this sketch yet; make it cartoony? graphic? minimal? colored? line art? or maybe just leave it as this sketch and move on to something else?

I am trying to simplify this drawing. I'm working toward fewer lines, more suggestion of form, a streamlined minimal drawing.

Uncontrolled splatter is always a nice touch.

I like the boldness of brush work, the loose quality of the line. I'll color this later, probably with a loose water color wash, nothing digital on this piece.
