sketching a moving cat...updated

My cat, Diesel, was sleeping on my scanner next to my computer. I was compelled by his cuteness to sketch him. During the drawing he moved his outstretched arm and tucked it in, achieving uber-cuteness, as seen in the top sketch. One of the advantages of drawing from a live model, human or feline, as opposed to a photo, is that a live model will shift and move a bit, it's a much better way to learn movement, anatomy, and motion.

red snapper

A cleaner version. I kept the sharp fin on top rough, but gave the rest of him a cleaner line.
This is part of a design for an upcoming episode of TOILET PUCK.

scoliosis

I sketched this girl while sitting on a terrace at a little pastry shop with my girlfriend. Her back had this really angular curve in it. I whipped out my sketch book and started drawing her, while my girlfriend whipped out her knitting.

Episode 11 complete!

It's episode #11 in the series, but it's only the second episode produced. I am not producing these in order. I want to have 3 or 4 random episodes done by October, not necessarily the first four in chronological order. Tell your friend's to check it out, leave a comment, rate it. And if you're nice, I'll have a couple more done in the next few months.

Henry Waxman

If you've never seen Henry Waxman do a google search. He looks like a mole rat. Fun to draw.

??

I was just horsing around with my Wacom tablet, and came up with this guy. I think if Boris Karloff was spliced with Larry Fine...this is what you would have.

bow

I felt inspired to do a bit of rough animation today. So I took a sketch I did from an earlier post and put some movement into it. The source of my inspiration comes from 3 things; first- I finished my first episode of Toilet Puck and feel really good about it. Second- all the amazing art blogs I have been looking at. Third-Dan Meth. He is one of the most prolific animators I know, it seems every few days he has made a new animated short. And they are all great! Check out the Meth Minute.

completed birthday card

With Squidward as the Emperor.

Sponge Bob Light Saber

A friend of mine asked me for a special request. It's his kid's birthday and he wants me to draw a picture for him. He likes Sponge Bob and Star Wars, so I drew Sponge Bob with light saber and his kid dressed as a Jedi with a jelly fish net.
Cleaned and colored Sponge Bob, next is the Jedi Kid. I also want to add Squidward in there as the Emperor.Cleaned and colored the Jedi kid.

justice

Even though I'm scrambling to finish a short web series, I made time to sketch this guy. It was just a picture in in the news of Justice Souter. I can't really call this a caricature, because I was not aiming at getting his likeness, just the over all character and pose...but I stuck it under the caricature label anyway.
