Castor and Pollux
More cut outs for the stick puppets. These are the Gemini twins Castor and Pollux. I had over 40 of these to water color and draw in just a few days, so I just slapped on flat colors. The outlines are not refined and off in places, and the colors are simple, but it somehow makes it look even better suited to stick puppets, than if it were more "polished" looking.

Leda
Another sketch from work today, from Greco-Roman mythology. In this story Leda, the girl in the pic, is seduced by a swan. The swan is actually Zeus in the form of a swan, apparently he has wonder twin powers. These mythological stories are great. Zeus really gets around. He's a swan in one myth, an eagle in another, and other animals in other stories, always seducing the earthly mortal woman. I still haven't figured out why he he has to be in the form of an animal to do that.

pandora's box

This is a quick watercolor of a sketch I posted earlier. A part of the stick puppet project I am working on. I rediscovered how much I love watercolors and brushes and painting, hopefully this project will motivate me to do some personal paintings.

cut outs

I get to do something fun for this project. Originally the plan was to literally make stick puppets. So I drew some characters, colored them on watercolor paper with gouache and watercolors, cut them out. From there I was going to stick them on foam board to make them sturdy and rigid, attach the stick, and film the show just like that. But it looks now like we are going to scan them and make a digital puppet show in after effects. But it is still supposed to look like real stick puppets, with none or very little articulation. These are the actual cut outs I scanned. It's not supposed to be super clean, we want it to look a bit unrefined. I think the finished digital puppet show will look quite good. And painting with real paint is a very pleasant change from all the digital projects I have been working on in the last while.
